Especially for ESAs ~

Become Indispensable to Your Districts

Be the “go to” source for cutting-edged training for crisis response teams.  Our  innovative video series with activities  provides the critical foundation for building team skills.

Facilitator Training

Either your staff or district staff become Facilitators by completing the crisis response team training (“Flight Team Training”) and the Facilitator Training.  Then your ESA holds annual training for both ESA and district staff to bring on new crisis team members.  You will want to include administrative, mental health, bi-lingual and other key staff in your trainings to create depth of skill and expertise on the team, in the ESA and in district buildings.

Develop Your Organizational Structure

Once many of your districts have joined the process, you are in a great position to choose any of a variety of team structures.  Some remain separate district teams, but the most effective are county or regional collaborative teams, mobilized by the ESA, but with the lion’s share of the strength coming from district staff who respond on behalf of neighboring districts.  This allows the district experiencing the crisis to remain stable, with key people in their own buildings.

Training Structure

  • Flight Team Training and Facilitator Training are each 20 hour courses.
  • Each session includes large group learning, break-out sessions and use of handouts and visuals.
  • Weekly assignments are completed in small group online video sessions at times of each group’s choosing.

Training  crisis response team members is one truly amazing way to give back to your community.

Flight Team (crisis response team) members respond to and support campuses going through a crisis or tragedy. The Facilitator course will give you the foundation to train new team members annually, be an empathic Flight Team Leader, while also addressing any concerns you might have about the process.

Recommended Material

Crisis Resource Manual, included for Flight Team Training

The Crisis Resource Manual is your “go to” guide for critical decisions and actions on crisis day. The crisis day checklist is in the front, making for quick access and ease of use when crisis strikes. The back of the book contains material helpful in planning for crisis response.

Training Manual, $55 for attendees

We highly recommend that this be used with the Crisis Resource Manual. Each chapter covers a different content area, and some chapters have exercises designed to help participants become more aware of their own issues from past experiences.

The Safe Room book by CheriLovre

Safe Room Book, $18

This book covers all dimensions of facilitating Safe Rooms — those nurturing spaces set aside for students who are in more profound grief following the death of a peer. Topics include philosophy, room set-up, rules and behavior management, activities and much more.
